The
Seafood Marketing Initiative (SMI) is one of three stands of the Peace
II Programme and is managed jointly by Northern Ireland Seafood and
the Irish Sea Fisheries board, BIM . It is funded under the Special
Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation for Northern Ireland
and the Border Counties
The Seafood Marketing Initiative aims
to develop the domestic market for Irish seafood and increase the
consumption of Seafood in the twelve Northern counties of Ireland.
It achieves this by conducting a number of events and promotional
activities within Northern Ireland and the six border counties,
specifically:
- Support for community based Seafood Festivals (4 per annum).
- In-store retail promotions (8 per annum).
- Community based cookery demonstrations/Exhibitions (4 per annum)
- Young Seafood Chef Of The Year Competition (1 per annum)
It is believed that this
programme targets the need to increase the level of seafood consumption
in the 12 northern counties and maximises the opportunity for cross-border
and cross-community contact
