Because kids grow so quickly, they need to increase the amount of energy in their bodies so eating fish is one of the smartest and simplest things they can do.
But what exactly does it do?
- Fish contains Omega 3 Fatty Acids, which is crucal for good health. However the body cannot make them on its own, for this reason, Omega 3 must be obtained from food.
- It is primarily found in oily cold-water fish such as Salmon and Mackerel.
- Recent research in trials of school children has suggested that a greater intake of Omega 3 in many cases improved co-ordination, concentration and academic ability.
- Omega Fatty Acids within the fish help the brain develop.
- Omega 3 fatty acids are known to help prevent a number of conditions
- Heart Disease
- Dyslexia
- Asthma
- Dyspraxia (poor phisical co-ordination)
- ADHD (Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder)
Research has shown that fish is an excellent source of protein, which is essential for growth and repair, and the maintenance of muscles and body tissues.
Your body needs vitamins to work properly and these are also found in fish.
Vitamin A helps to maintain healthy eyes, skin and hair and Vitamin D is required to help the formation of strong bones and teeth.
Whitefish contain a lot of vitamin B and examples include Cod, Haddock and Sea bass. This makes energy and sets it free when your body needs it, so for all sports fans, this gives the energy needed to play.
Shellfish like Prawns, Crabs, Lobster, Mussels and Scallops contain Vitamin E that can help to protect your lungs from being damaged by polluted air and protects a lot of your body's tissues.
Fish is easy to digest and easy to prepare, eating seafood at least twice a week can go a long way.
