Secondary
For secondary levels,
food education constitutes a more formal aspect of children's education.
Working with smaller numbers permits this programme to be much more
personal and intense.
The secondary demonstrations
run to a different theme to that of Primary and Special Needs, where
the health benefits are focused on in greater detail, bringing forward
the concept of why we need to have a balanced diet and the advantages
this brings. NIS endeavour to reinforce the idea of healthy alternatives
to student's normal consumption.
A Home Economics room is
asked to be made available in order to facilitate these secondary
level demonstrations. During this interactive demonstration, students
are informed to the various different categories of fish indigenous
to our island, and then shown how simple fish is to cook right before
their eyes.
At the end of the demonstration,
students are provided with an A4 pack, which includes a number of
recipe leaflets, postcard, information sheet and evaluation sheet.
Classroom demonstrations
are a proactive approach in encouraging students to be more open
to working with fish.
